House of Hein - Historical Site to air New Venue Press Release… Rockville, IN and Brazil, IN – The “William E. Eaglesfield House” owner, Mr. Robert Hein of Brazil, announced today the future opening of “The House of Hein, Livery Stable Antique Mall”. The “William E. Eaglesfield House Estate” which sets east of Brazil, IN on Old National Road (U.S. 40) was constructed in 1855 and is listed in the “National Register of Historical Homes”. Mr. William E. Eaglesfield, a railroad entrepreneur, later completed a poplar wood 3 story barn in 1895, which is also listed on several “Register’s.” Local legend has it as one of the most photographed barns in the United States and was used during the Abraham Lincoln administration as a watering hole and rest stop while traveling back and forth to Washington, D.C. on the Old National Highway (now U.S. 40). It is also believed that James Hoffa and Al Capone also ate in the “Eaglesfield House” restaurant during their visits to the local area.Since the Pre-Civil War construction, the “ Eaglesfield House” has served as a personal home for several families, a way station, a restaurant, a motel and apartment house and totally self sustaining Northern Plantation, with smoke house, fresh water well, grape harbor and fruit trees along with several acres of garden. The barn at one time housed up to 40 horses and other livestock to provide food and livelihood to the owners.Robert (Bob) Hein purchased the Eaglesfield House Estate last summer and has been in the process of re-furbishing the home, barn and grounds back to the original Pre-Civil War grand style. The Estate, during earlier years was owned by Bob’s recently deceased wife’s family. The House of Hein is in the process of re-modeling the first two floors of the barn into an indoor antiques mall with up to 35 antiques booths and a small quaint snack-bar. The historical, “Livery Stable Antique Mall” will be a re-creation of a prior, “Livery Stable” mall in Lowell IN, which the Hein family operated many years ago. In addition to the “Livery Stable Antique Mall” they will have an open air, weekly Flea market, located on the back of the17 acre property. Both areas are expected to open for business on Mothers Day weekend 2007.
